Going to Las Vegas

Over Spring Break, I had a fabulous time in Las Vegas!

We saw many spectacular shows, including "Blue Man Group," the water show at the Bellagio Hotel,  the pirate show at Treasure Island, and finally the volcano eruption at the Mirage Hotel.

While we were in Vegas, we also went to the Mirage Hotel and saw their magnificent "Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat."  There, we saw:  Bottlenose dolphins, white tigers, white lions, panthers and leopards.  My favorite animal at the exhibit was the leopard because he rolled on his back like my dog Oliver does.

Another thing we did was to go on the Gondola boats at the Venetian Hotel.  I felt like I was in Italy because the Gondolier (the person who works the boat) sung to us in Italian.  The boat ride was fun, especially when we would turn because it shook me and felt like a ride.

This is a video from my itouch.  You will see a huge volcano erupt at the Mirage Hotel.

This is me taking a photo from the view of our room.  You can see a monorail if you look closely.

This is a photo by me.  It's an action shot of a dolphin jumping out of the water at the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat.

This is a photo I took of the big leopard rolling on the ground like a dog.
Here are some fun facts about Las Vegas (from the official Las Vegas website):

* Las Vegas' 100th birthday was on May 15,  2005

* 36 MILLION people visited Las Vegas in 2009

*  The Stratosphere Hotel and Tower has the title of being the 5th tallest building in the United States (1,100 feet tall)

* In 1959, the famous "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign was created by Betty Willis

Have you ever visited Las Vegas?

Have you seen any of the shows I listed?

What is your favorite city to visit?

  2. @ Tara,

Thank you for leaving me a comment. Yes, I can't even believe how many things we saw and things we rode on in two days!

I'm also looking forward to my next post!

    What was your favorite picture?

  3. Dear Sammy,

Great post. I wish I could have been on that trip with you. Oh wait, I was there. Boy oh boy did we have fun, huh?

I like the pictures you picked to use on your blog. I still can't believe how perfect and precise your timing was to capture that dolphin in mid-air like you did. You may have a future as a photographer, and what a cool video too.

My favorite place or city outside of Los Angeles to visit is anywhere with you, but I do like Vegas and Lake Tahoe a lot.

I saw the Blue Man Group show in Vegas about 7 or 8 years ago with my friend David from Dallas Texas (he has also commented on your blog recently). Back then I remember thinking how much fun the Blue Man Show would be to go to one day with my 1 or 2 year old son Sam at home in Los Angeles. The coolest part about that memory is that my hope and thought came true.

Looking forward to your next post.

    Love you,
    Lance (Dad)

  4. @ Dad,

Thank you for calling my post a great post! I can't even believe I took the dolphin picture in five seconds! When you were with David what else did you do in Vegas? Yes, I really want to be a photographer, and I probably will become one. I'm also looking forward to my next post!

    Hi Sammy,

Yes, I've been to Las Vegas many times, a few even with you. I think it's a great city to visit because there are so many good restaurants, terrific shows, and lots of other really fun things to do. Plus, it only takes 45 minutes to get there by plane or 4 hours by car, so that's a bonus. This was my first time seeing "Blue Man Group" and I really enjoyed it. It's a pretty hard show to describe to someone who hasn't seen it because it's so unique and special. I have also seen one of the "Cirque du Soleil" shows in Las Vegas which was another interesting and exciting show to see.

There are so many cities that I love visiting in addition to Las Vegas, including Lake Tahoe, San Diego, Park City, and hopefully sooner than later, Maui.

I'm looking forward to hearing back from you and also to read your next post.

    Love,

    Dana (Sammy's mom)

  6. @ Mom,

Great comment! I agree with you, it is hard to describe Blue Man Group. In addition, it was enormously loud! Don't you love that if you take an air plane to Las Vegas it only takes 45 minutes? I also want to visit the tropical Hawaii.

    Sammy

  7. Hi Sammy,

What great photos of Las Vegas, especially the one of the dolphin. That's my favorite. I've been to Vegas several times and even saw the Blue Man Group, although I didn't sit all the way up front. And you know why! My favorite city is Rome, Italy and when you get there you'll understand. It's wonderful and filled with history and amazing people and great food. If I remember correctly, you still owe me a response to your original blog page which I'm looking forward to receiving.

I really like your pictures and love the idea that you have an interest in photography. Keep up the great work.

    Love, David (Sammy's Grandpa)

    1. @ Grandpa,

Thank you for leaving a comment. I love the dolphin picture too. I don't know why the the people in the front row at Blue Man Group were wearing huge plastic covers to keep their bodies from getting wet when they only got a few drops on them. Maybe we could go to Vegas together one day. I will comment back to you on my welcome post soon.

  8. Dear Sammy,

When I went to Las Vegas I stayed in the Win hotel. In the hotel there was a casino (of course I did not go and bet for money), ten South African guys singing songs one day a week, a few restaurants, a bar, and rooms obviously.

The walls always made me hungry because I love red velvet cake.

Did you see the Win hotel?

    Sincerely,
    Aidan

    1. Dear Aidan,

Thank you for commenting! We were on the eighteenth floor. I saw the Wynn perfectly, I even saw the pool. WOW! The pool is so long! Am I correct that a lot of limos go in there? When I was looking out the window I saw an ambulance pull up with it's loud annoying siren and a also a patty wagon. In case you didn't know, a patty wagon is a police car that holds bad guys.

      Your friend,

      Sammy

  9. Dear Sammy,

Yes, I have been to Las Vegas. I went there when it was my sister's birthday. She turned 9 and now she's 10. Also when it was night, we would walk around and would go in a store. The last store we went to was The M&M store. There I bought a blue m&m wallet.

Can you tell me what stores you went to?

    Sincerely,
    Trey

  10. Hi Sammy,
Wow, another great blog posting. Those are some great pictures you took. I've been to Las Vegas several times, including once with you a couple of years ago, when we all stayed at the Mandalay Bay! I haven't seen all the shows that you saw on your most recent trip. It sounds like you really had a great time! I like visiting Las Vegas, but I think my favorite city to visit is Barcelona in Spain. It's a beautiful city with lots of interesting and unusual architecture, great food and night life, and plenty to see and do. It's very different than here in Los Angeles. Keep up the good work on your blog...I'm enjoying your posts.
    Sincerely,
    Uncle Jay

    1. @ Uncle Jay,

I agree with you, these are great pictures! Yes, we did have a great trip. Is Barcelona, Spain an urban place or rural? I will keep on blogging! I'm enjoying my posts. Also, I like commenting back to everyone too. Hopefully, we can go to Las Vegas together!

  11. Dear Sammy,

What a terrific travel post about Las Vegas! The text and photos work well together!

The photo you got of the jumping dolphin is spectacular! Did you have to take a lot to get that one or did you snap it just at the right time? Photography is very fun. Maybe we should use your shot for a photo of the day!

I'm curious, what is the population of Las Vegas? What was the temperature during the day? I know it's hot in the summer, but not sure about the spring temperatures.

    Terrific work!

    Mrs. Y♥llis

  12. @ Mrs. Yollis,

Thank you for calling my post a terrific post! Yes, I took about thirty photos of the dolphin before I finally got one of him in the air! Of course you can use the picture of the dolphin for a photo of the day.

The population of Las Vegas is 583,756 from the 2010 census. Las Vegas is the most populated city in Nevada. When we went in April, the weather was in the 70's. However, the Spring temperatures can be from the 70's to the 90's!

    Sincerely,

    Sammy
