Mother's day!
Mother's day was started in the United States more than 150 years ago. It's the most popular day of the year in the U.S. to eat out and also a day where the phone lines have been used more than normal as people call the special person in their lives to say "Happy Mother's Day."
I love Mothers day because you get a special gift for a special person. You may be celebrating your Mom, your Grandma, your Aunt, or your friend. Here is the beginning of a poem I know: Roses are Red,
Violets are blue....make up the rest of the poem and write it in your comment!
- Who is the special person you are celebrating today?
- What gift or card did you get them?
- Can you finish the poem?
Dear Sammy,
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful post about Mother’s Day. Many times people have written about mothers. Here is one from Washington Irving, author of “Rip van Winkle”.
A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us; when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavour by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.
(Washington Irving, US Writer)
He tells us how important mothers are because they are there for us no matter what troubles or sadness we face. Her love is unconditional.
Your questions…
Who is the special person you are celebrating today?
On Mother’s Day, it’s always my mum. Although she is now over 80, my brothers and I are still her boys. :)
What gift or card did you get them?
She received a card and gift from me and had phone calls from my brothers. They don't live close to here.
Can you finish the poem?
Roses are Red,
Violets are blue
Mum’s always there,
Her love is true.
Sammy, thanks for sharing an informative and interesting post. :)

Dear Sammy,
ReplyDeleteMother's day was spectacular. My mom opened four presents and, mine was first. The present that I gave my mom was a flower pop up card that had a note that said, "You deserve a beautiful, love-filled day." Then my 11 year old sister gave my mom a bead and a charm for her bracelet. Also my 10 year old sister gave my mom a pot to put flowers in. Last was my little brother, he gave my mom a Mother's day card made at school.
What did you give to your mom for Mother's day?
Sincerely,
Trey
